IMDS Services

The International Material Data System (IMDS) was introduced in 2000. It is a computer-based material data system used primarily by automotive OEMs to manage environmentally relevant aspects of the different parts used in vehicles. It has been adopted as the global standard for reporting material content in the automotive industry.

The IMDS was originally developed in response to the European ELV directive and is the result of a collaborative effort involving 8 OEMs, namely Audi, BMW, Daimler, Ford, Opel, Porsche, VW and Volvo. Since its establishment, OEMs throughout the world have joined the sponsor's group supporting the system as other regions of the world implement similar legislation. The starting point for the software solution was the voluntary commitment of the car industry to recycle 95% of the mass of the vehicle earlier than by the year 2015.

Conflict Minerals Services

On August 22, 2012, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved a final rule “section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act” requiring certain issuers to publicly disclose their use of Conflict Minerals [tantalum, tin, tungsten, and gold] and whether those minerals originated in the Democratic Republic of the Congo ("DRC") or adjoining countries (“covered countries”). This rule imposes reporting requirements on manufacturers if the products they manufacture or contract to manufacture contain minerals identified as “Conflict Minerals. Issuers will be required to provide annual disclosures on a new Form SD to be filed with the SEC. The filing deadline for annual disclosures is 31st May, for the previous year

RoHS & REACH Services

The RoHS directive (EU-RoHS (2002/95/EC), recent revision RoHS-2 2011/65/EU) aims to restrict certain dangerous substances commonly used in electronic and electronic equipment. Producers of EEE (electrical and electronic equipment) within the scope of the Directive are responsible for ensuring that their products meet the requirements of the Directive. Furthermore, the act of placing a product on the market is a declaration by the producer that the product complies with the Directive

REACH Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 is a new extensive legislation that will affect all involved in producing and/or importing chemicals in the European Union. REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals. It’s big and broad in scope AND It’s not just for the chemical sector The most ambitious chemicals policy change in history (40 Directives 1 Regulation), over 1000 pages. It is effective from 1st June 2007 Its deals with all new and existing chemical substances produced in or imported into the EU in amounts of 1 tonne or more. All chemicals that meet these criteria will have to be registered with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). "No data, No market"

Conflict Minerals Support for Global Tier - 1

Client Situation:

One of the World’s largest Automotive part supplier and one of the top 10 suppliers to Ford was looking for Conflict Minerals Due Diligence support to meet the Dodd Frank Act 1502 requirements

APA Team’s Approach:

  • Customer wanted a Due diligence support to audit their incoming EICC / GeSI forms from their suppliers
  • As the Conflict Minerals rule is first of its kind in world, as a first step, APA team studied the entire rule in depth and inferred the practical way of handling within the supply chain
  • Went through the AIAG Due Diligence procedure, EICC / GeSI templates, other industry sources and got trained by Customer in their required standards.
  • APA team did a thorough and stringent Due Diligence of the incoming EICC / GeSI templates and recorded the outcomes in an APA Database. Did lot of supplier communication.

  • Global Due Diligence team to screen the EICC / GeSI forms was set up in less than 3 weeks of time.
  • Support to create the Specialized Disclosure Form to Stock Exchange Commission.

End to End IMDS Support for Global OEM

Client Situation:

Customer was of the World’s largest Automotive OEM who requires End to End IMDS support.

APA Team’s Approach:

  • APA had a discussion with Customer on the overall process and participated actively in setting up the work flow.
  • A pyramid team with Team Leader and Team members were formed gradually along with an Japanese Language Translator who will communicate with its Japanese suppliers / internal Japanese customers.
  • APA team focusses on complete Validation, Creation and Supplier Follow up using Advanced interfaces of IMDS such as iPoint and referring several sophisticated Customer in house tools.
  • APA team also supported customer in performing the Recyclability calculations.

Reverse Engineering of Swage Tool

Problem Statement:

To support customer in the Reverse Engineering of the Swage Tool.

  • 3D model of Swage Tool Parts and Assembly of Swage tool.
  • 2D drawing of all the parts and assemblies.

Methodology:

  • Manual Inspection to obtain dimensions of simple features.
  • CMM inspection to get cloud points data on some complicated profiles.
  • Generating the 3D parametric digital model of entire part from the generated cloud points and dimensions.
  • Creation 2D drawing.
  • Metallurgical analysis to obtain Composition of materials for all the plastic and steel parts

3D parametric model of the part which can be used for Engineering/Design modifications for other similar purpose.

Consolidation of series of TEE connector into a Family table

Problem Statement:

Customer has paper based drawings for 51 series of parts. Customer goal is to obsolete the separate drawings for each size and have one drawing showing the changes from size to size.

Plant Layout Design:

Problem Statement:

To develop a plant layout with 2D and 3D parametric representation of various components like machines, conveyor belts etc. Total 4 layouts to be developed for differential axle plants.
